Mayo Have Strong Start to Tesco U16 Championship

The Mayo U16 team made the long journey to CLG Beart, Moness today to face Donegal in the opening round of the Tesco U16 Championship.

There was a busy start to the match with Donegal getting the opening score, a goal, just after 6 minutes of play. Mayo countered with a point, a goal and another point in quick succession.

At the first water break, Mayo led by 2.2 to Donegal 1. 0.

Donegal again took the first score after the water break adding a point to their tally and going into half time Mayo led by 2.2 to Donegal 1.1.

The second half begain with Mayo scoring 2 goals and a point before Donegal put another score in the back of the net.

Mayo however were proving too strong for the Donegal defence and put 4 more goals and 4 points on the scoreboard before the match ended.

Our players were strong all over the field and displayed not only great teamwork but a determination that they will be keen to take into their second round match against Cavan next Sunday in Tooreen.

Mayo Camogie would like to thank Donegal for their hospitality and refreshments at the end of the match, all much appreciated.
