In a sun soaked Tooreen, Mayo lined out against Cavan in their second match of the U16 Championship today.
After a solid start to their championship with a win over Donegal, Mayo were hopeful to gain match experience against Cavan.
The match began with an even spread of possession and scoring with Mayo putting 3 points on the scoreboard before the first water break and Cavan with a 1.1 tally.

However after the break the Mayo team took ownership of the match and played brilliantly in all areas of the field.
By half time they had a four point advantage and their momentum didn’t end there.
The second half saw Mayo score 3 goals and 2 points while Cavan only got 2 points on the board.

Cavan battled all through the match to win ball and had some strong players, but today was to be Mayo’s day.
The Mayo defence, midfield and forwards all played with strength and the teamwork all across the field was great to watch.
As a result Mayo have now topped Group 1 in the D Championship and have secured a semi-final spot on July 11th, opposition and venue to be confirmed.
