As we await the Nancy Murray Cup Final later this afternoon, let us remind you of our unique connection here in Mayo to the lady whose name is on the cup.
In the 1959 All Ireland Camogie final a lady by the name of Nancy Murray was the official match referee. The teams competing that day were Dublin and Mayo!
Nancy Murray was from Antrim and had a distinguished playing and management career. She then went on to be President of the Camogie Association from 1973 – 1975.
In 2006 the Camogie Association named one of the Junior Camogie Championships Cup after Nancy.

The 1959 Mayo Captain was a lady by the name of Josie Ruane, she is now Josie Mulligan and she visited a Mayo team training session earlier this year to provide words of inspiration! Read all about her visit here.
