The sun shone in Bekan at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence for the Mayo Tesco County Caman Festival.
Under normal circumstances our U12 teams in the county would be able to participate in Caman to Connacht and play many teams from all around the province.
This year unfortunately that could not take place and so each county, where possible, would hold a County Caman Festival.
This initiative meant that our U12s still got the chance for extra game time and skill development.
The main focus of the Caman Festival is fun and all players to get the chance to play and gain game experience without any competitive pressures.
Mayo Camogie County Development Officer Ger O’Brien, welcomed all teams to the event and set out the format for the day.
Four teams from three clubs participated and each team played three matches.
All six matches were great to watch with lots of skills on display and great sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see all these young players enjoy the games.
We were also lucky to have the Nancy Murray Cup with us today so the girls could hold the All-Ireland trophy that the Mayo Camogie team recently won – no doubt in future years lots of these U12 players will be wearing the green and red of Mayo and representing their county on camogie pitches.
Keep an eye out on the Mayo Camogie Facebook Page and also the club pages for more photos from the day!
Thanks to all the players and coaches for attending and to the parents for driving the players to all matches and training throughout the season.
Thanks to both Ger O’Brien and Orla Mulloy for refereeing the matches – their time was really appreciated.
